Read
2 Peter 3:8-9, "But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."
Think
When we see something unjust, we often demand, "Someone has to pay!" Our desire to do something in these situations is not wrong, but often our timing is. Have you ever been angry and wanted something done immediately, only to realize later that patience was the best response? A little patience goes a long way regarding the right response.
God's timing can seem like it takes too long because our perspective is limited to the 80 or so years we walk this earth. God, however, is not limited to 80 or even 800 years. God has an infinitely larger perspective, and He sees the entire picture – which makes His timing perfect.
When you see something unjust and wonder where God is, remember that God is not a procrastinator who can't get His act together. God is patient, and He will choose the right response at the right time so that as many people as possible might have an opportunity to choose Him. When the dust settles, we will realize that God is just, His timing is right, and His love for us is unquestionable.
Act
We all have reasons to be thankful for God's patience. What if God immediately punished you for every wrong decision you made? Take a minute to think about when God has been patient with you and thank Him for His patience.
Pray
God, help me seek Your perspective when something unjust happens. Help me to respond in the right way and at the right time. Amen.
