Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Think:

Mark Twain wrote, "What a wee little part of a person’s life are his acts and his words! His real life is led in his head and is known to no one but himself. All day long, the mill of his brain is grinding, and his thoughts, not those other things, are his history.”

In this week's devotions, we are exploring the guardrails of truth and honor that guide our minds. Today, let's dive into “whatever is right and whatever is pure.” Throughout Scripture, "right" is often intertwined with the adherence to God's laws, symbolizing a path that is straight. However, in a world consumed by the pursuit of personal happiness and comfort, our focus often strays from God's standards. Our calling as Christ-followers, though, remains steady: to direct our attention toward what is righteous and aligned with Scripture.

While the concept of purity might not be easily found on network television, the word “pure” is the same root word that is used for saint. But it's not merely a description of outward behavior; its power lies within the heart and mind. Our protection against impurity lies in immersing our thoughts in his Word. As we nurture our minds with the truth of God's promises, we create a sanctuary for purity to flourish, even as we live in a world that is crazy with pollutants.

Pray:

Jesus, make me more like you. Help me pattern my thoughts after yours, and clarify my thinking. Guard my mind, give me wisdom and discernment of what to place at the forefront of my attention. In Jesus' name. Amen.
