Romans 8:39, “…neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Jeremiah 31:3, “The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.’”
1 Corinthians 13:8, “Love never fails.”
Most people have experienced love that has failed or ended at one time or another. Maybe you have gone through a divorce, a parent left or a friend dropped away. Experience and life teach people that love fails, and that love doesn't last.
The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians, “Love never fails,” but our encounters have trained us to be cynical. Our experiences prepare us to doubt. The amazing thing about Jesus’ love is that it heals; it fills in the gaps when others leave. His love is deep and full, unwavering and certain. His love will fill an empty heart, soften the rage of a hurting heart and mend the pain of a broken heart.
In the famous balcony scene of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo pledges his love for Juliet. He swears by the moon, and then Juliet cuts him off with a quick, “O, swear not by the moon, the inconstant moon.” She knew love should not change; it should be steady and constant. Love should be a light in the dark world. God’s love is a constant; it never fails.
Today, make a conscious effort to love like Jesus. This love is active! Encourage someone. Comfort someone. Forgive someone. You can be sure God will work through the love you show.
God, I believe You love me. Help me to see that nothing separates me from You; Your love pursues and consumes me. Amen.
