Two Masters

Read

Revelation 18:17, "For in a single hour all this wealth has been laid waste..." Luke16:13, "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."

Think

"If Jesus isn't Lord of all, He isn't Lord at all." Big paydays, fancy possessions and growing a portfolio - some think God is against those things, but he's not! God just doesn't want the pursuit of those things to control us - to be our master. That's why he warned that we cannot serve two masters. If we are more passionate about those things than God, we will miss out on God's best for our lives. Here are some signs we are more passionate about those things than God:
  • neglecting our family to advance our career
  • regularly missing church because we are too tired from a long week of work
  • not being generous because we are undisciplined in our spending.
Paydays, possessions and, portfolios are not bad things, but they make bad masters. None of those things care about us and even worse, they won't last. God is different. He truly cares about us and wants the best for us. He wants us to invest our passion in things that will last, like the church. When we make God our master, we can enjoy the things we have because we know they don't have control over us.

Act

The perfect way to begin to grow your heart of generosity is to trust God and start bringing your tithe back to God. Or even begin bringing over and above the tithe (10% of your gross salary) back to God and his church. Watch as God will stretch you and grow your heart of generosity along with so many other things like never before!

Pray

Heavenly Father, thank you for trusting me with many things. Help me to be wise in my attitude towards these things and invest them in what is most important – people and your church!
