The Promise of Presence

Read

Hebrews 13:5,  "Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you."

Think

"If we have been forgiven, we will never be forsaken!" In Romans 8:31, Paul asks a great rhetorical question: "If God is for us, who can be against us?" When times are good, it's easy to believe this. But what about the bad times, when we desperately want to feel God's presence in the midst of loss, bewilderment, or distress? The answer – no matter how abandoned we might  feel - is that He is completely present. God's greatest promise is His presence. When no one is left to stand with us, we can still stand if our feet are firmly planted on the Rock – Jesus Christ. He was forsaken and abandoned on the cross as He bore our sin and shame. Jesus, the sinless Savior, actually became sin for us! But because Jesus was willing to be forsaken, we can be forgiven! God never breaks promises. He is always faithful and always present all of the time. Lovingly, God guides our path and has His helping hand on our lives to help us endure whatever trouble life brings. Remember, our situations and circumstances will change, but God has never changed, and He never will!

Act

Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still, and know that I am God." Acknowledge God's presence today by clearing your mind and sitting quietly for a few minutes. As He rains down His love into your heart, meditate on the sheer power of this great promise.

Pray

Dear Lord, thank You for the promise of Your presence. There is nothing greater than this. In moments when my faith may waver, help me to remember that I am never alone, and that You are always with me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
