Luke 10:40-42, “She came to Jesus and said, ‘Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.’ But the Lord said to her, ‘My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.'”
“Every party has a pooper, and the party pooper’s you!” Nobody wants to be the party pooper, but many of us have become just that. We get so busy with work and the necessities of life that we forget how to enjoy the moment. We lose the ability to laugh and have fun!
Martha was the classic party pooper poster child. She was agitated by her hosting duties and frustrated with her sister, Mary, who had left the kitchen and joined the party. Thinking she had an ally in Jesus, Martha unloaded her burden on Him. But Jesus flipped the script! He made it clear that, at this moment, Martha’s sister had chosen correctly. Martha’s concerns and actions were not wrong – we need to sweat the details and manage life wisely – but timing is everything! Martha had missed the moment. It was time to savor life, not to manage it. It was time to be the life of the party, not the party pooper.
Commit to enjoying life today. Have a sense of humor and find something to celebrate!
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of life found in Jesus Christ. Help me not miss those moments when I need to celebrate life instead of managing it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
