The Importance of Hard Work

Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all of your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters…”

Think

We’ve all heard someone say, “Are you working hard or hardly working?” Today’s scripture shouts at us: God wants us to put the pedal to the metal in all we do, regardless of our line of work! Why? Because it gives Him glory.

The famous composer, J.S. Bach, wrote many works of musical art that classical musicians still play today. In every manuscript, he wrote, “To God Be the Glory!” What a great lesson from this musical genius! We should give our all in everything we do because God gave His all for us. And when we give our all, we turn the spotlight away from ourselves and toward God, where it rightly belongs.

A great reminder to always give our best is thinking about whose name is on a project – your name; your boss’s name; your company’s name; and, ultimately, God’s name. When you consider that you are representing all of those names, it will help you to up the ante and work even harder to do your best!

Act

This week, change your thinking as you go about your work. Place the names of each individual you just read above on all of your work and see if it causes you to step up your work habits to a new level of excellence.

Pray

God, You gave Your all. So, the least I can do is give my all back to You out of appreciation. Give me the desire and the drive to achieve excellence so that all I do will bring glory and honor to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
