“We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost. We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way. And God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong, on him.” Isaiah 53:6
The scripture above gives a not-so-complimentary comparison between humans and sheep. Sheep don’t have a reputation for being very smart. As followers and grazers, they are known to be easily drawn off-course. That’s why they need to have a shepherd watching over them.
We, as humans, also seem to have the innate ability to wander astray. We begin grazing in areas of life that we should never venture into. Before we know it, we’re being chased by predators and running toward a cliff!
The great news is that we have a “Good Shepherd,” as Jesus describes Himself in John 10:11, and He laid down His life for our sake. In Luke 15:4-7, Jesus tells us that even if He has a hundred sheep, He isn’t willing to let even one go astray. He will leave the ninety-nine to find and bring back the one. It is such a comforting thought to know that God cares so much about us, His sheep, that He would sacrifice everything to make sure we are found.
Read Luke 15:4-7 and spend some time thinking and thanking God for His love for us!
Heavenly Father, “Thank you” doesn’t seem to be enough for the sacrifice You made for me. I never want to take for granted what You have done to make sure I was found and protected from the enemy. Continue to guide me and direct me on the path You have for me. Help me always hear my Good Shepherd’s voice and follow Your direction in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
