The Formula for Success

Read

Genesis 2:24, "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh."

Think

In Genesis 2:24, God lays out His winning plan, His winning formula for marriage. On one hand, this formula is simple. It is two becoming one (1+1=1). But on the other hand, God's formula is extremely complex and brings with it tremendous responsibility. It's a formula that takes work! When a man and a woman get married, their relationship becomes a reflection of something more than many realize at the time. It is a reflection of the gospel: the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. But a winning marriage-a marriage that honors God-doesn't just happens. It takes determination and effort on the part of both parties to overcome their selfishness and pride. As you consider marriage, remember the work that Christ has done for you on the cross. Remember the work that He has called you to do in your relationship. And remember that the work is always worth it!

Act

Think of one thing you can do today to show your spouse how valuable and precious they are to you. But it isn't just a thought that counts. So make sure you do the work to show them!

Pray

Dear God, thank You for the gift of marriage. As I go through my day, help me to focus on the work Your Son, Jesus Christ, did on the cross so that I can have the determination and drive to work on the relationships in my own life for Your glory. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
