John 3:16,
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Think
John 3:16 is probably the most widely known verse in all of Scripture. Even the most hardcore atheist could likely quote it. But even though it's commonly known, it is anything but common. It is the heart of the entire gospel-the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ-in a nutshell. And without the good news of the gospel, we'd be in for some major trouble. Because, as we've learned in this series, without Christ our hearts are diseased and depraved. Yet, we are still the objects of God's love. From the beginning, He had a plan for our salvation: to perform heart surgery and replace what is broken. He could have left us to fend for ourselves, but He didn't. God's love is too profound. He loves us with all of His heart, and He has done the work needed to repair our broken hearts. John 3:16 shows us that the very essence of God's heart is generosity. When we are given a new heart by Him, when we allow Him to perform heart surgery on us, that essence of generosity becomes our essence as well. And as our relationship with Christ grows, so does our desire to please Him and model His spirit of generosity. At Fellowship Church, we are all about generosity-with our time, talent, and treasure. It isn't just who we are, it's what we do. That is why we have opened our hearts to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Has your heart been transformed by God? Then its time for you to make an impact!
