Matthew 16:15-16," 'But what about you?' he asked. 'Who do you say I am?' Simon Peter answered, 'You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.'"
Think
Jesus is someone who cannot be avoided. All of history is hinged upon His life. More books have been written, and songs have been sung, about Jesus than any other person in history.
It seems that everyone has something to say about Jesus. Popular opinions today claim that Jesus was simply a good man, a teacher, or a prophet. In this passage, we read that Jesus asked Simon Peter, "Who do you say I am?" Peter looked at all the evidence that he had seen and declared that Jesus was the Son of God!
Peter's answer is simple but profound. And we all must answer that same question. Many choose to not even look at the evidence of Jesus' life. Still others make a sincere effort to examine the facts of His life, and choose to believe in Him. There is no neutral ground. Ignoring the question is a choice. We are either accept Him or reject Him.
Jesus' love for us is so great that He gave His life for us on the cross and rose again three days later so we could be forgiven of all our sin. But He doesn’t force Himself on us. We make the choice of whether or not to receive this gift that He offers. The question that Jesus asked Peter is still being asked to us today: Who do you say Jesus is? Either He is a liar, a lunatic, or the Lord that He claimed to be!
Act
One of the greatest things we can do as followers of Jesus is to share what Jesus has done in our lives with others, our rescue story. Be intentional today and tell someone your story of how Jesus rescued you!
Pray
God, thank You for sending Your son, Jesus, to rescue me from all my mistakes and mess-ups. Help me to surrender every area of my life to You. Amen.
