Revelation 3:16, "But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!"
Think
Our verse for today is very graphic! It reveals how God feels when we sit on the fence of living life for Him. Some translations of today's verse say God "vomits" when He sees His people straddling the fence, void of commitment to either side.
Isn't it interesting that God would rather us be cold for Him over being lukewarm? God doesn't want to see us waver between following Him then not following Him. He wants us to make a choice and stand by it.
Let's get personal and practical for a moment. Do you act one way on weekdays and then another way on Sundays? That's being lukewarm. Do you say one thing and then do another? That’s being lukewarm. Do you compromise or back down when you face opposition? That’s being lukewarm.
Consistency is something God models all through Scripture. He wants us to have the courage to consistently follow His biblical principles, even when it's not the popular thing to do. Are you living a lukewarm life? Turn up the temperature and be consistent. Crawl down from that fence and take a stand on God's side with confidence, consistency, and conviction!
Act
Today, ask God to make you aware of times you are tempted to be lukewarm. Make the hard and right decision, and see how it fuels you to get off the fence in other situations, too!
Pray
Heavenly Father, give me the courage to be bold and always take a stand for what's right in Your eyes. Whenever I'm tempted to straddle the fence, remind me that's the worst place I can be. In Jesus' name, Amen.
