Solo Man

Read

Ecclesiastes 2:26, "To the person who pleases Him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness..." Proverbs 14:12, "There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death."

Think

A man once asked Billy Graham: "I don't want to offend you, but why should I bother with God? My life is going along just fine without Him." Billy Graham responded by asking, "What do you suppose would happen to you if God didn't bother with you, but rather ignored you, refusing to have anything to do with you? Here's what would happen. Your life would end before you finished reading this sentence." One of the tricks this life plays on all of us is convincing us that God isn't a necessity. We begin to believe we've gotten this far on our own and, as such, we don't need Him. We are drawn into the "Solo Man" mentality. This kind of thinking leads to one destination - death. Not just physically, but death to our purpose, finding our true identity, and fulfilling the deepest desires of our heart. We can leave God out of our life, but why would we? The destiny of the roads we may choose are not always as they appear. Put simply, the path that leads to destruction and defeat is rarely marked clearly. We need God's wisdom to make the right choices. Do not be deceived in thinking you can trust your own examination and judgment. Don't be Solo Man!

Act

Recall some choices you have made that did not end up well. Record those choices as a reminder of what happens when you try to navigate life as Solo Man. Commit Proverbs 14:12 to memory and recall it every time you attempt to be the Solo Man (or woman)!

Pray

Dear God, I admit that I fall into the trap of trying to navigate life on my own, but I need You. I look to You in order to make the right choices. I want to please You, knowing that You will give me the knowledge I need to live a life that leads to success and everlasting life. Amen.
