Read:

Psalm 127:3-5 Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.”

Think:

Former President George H.W. Bush faced a pivotal question about his life’s greatest achievement. He had an illustrious career that included feats as a naval pilot during World War II, eight years as Vice President alongside Ronald Reagan, leadership at the helm of the CIA, and a term as President of the United States. His legacy could have been adorned with the laurels of Operation Desert Storm. Yet, when he offered his heartfelt response, it was a revelation of his true priorities. He said, “My greatest accomplishment is that my children still come to see me.”

In those words, he illuminated a profound truth: your children are not only your most significant investment, but also your most sacred ministry and enduring legacy.

The journey of successful parenting commences with a deep, intimate relationship with God. One cannot effectively raise a child in the image of God without first nurturing that connection with God for himself. The impact you have on your children is intrinsically tied to the strength of your relationship with God and your unwavering dedication to aligning your life with his purpose. When God's purpose becomes your driving force, it filters every aspect of your parenting journey with meaning and direction. Your connection with him becomes the origin of wisdom and guidance that empowers you to navigate parenthood and instill in your children the values that will shape their lives so that he is glorified.

Apply:

Begin today to strengthen your relationship with God. Develop a strong quiet time; spend time every day praying and reading his Word.

Pray:

Lord, help me to seek you and your purposes – above any other pursuit in life. I can easily be distracted by the temporary, so keep me focused on the eternal. Help me to not just talk of a relationship with you, but truly live it in my daily priorities and actions. In Jesus' name. Amen.
