Not Consumed By Quicksand

Read

John 4:14, "But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Romans 8:38-39, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Think

There is a meme floating around social media that states, "When I was a kid, I thought that quicksand was going to be a much bigger problem." Along with the caption are pictures from old movies of people sinking deep, with little hope of getting out. The reality is that it's difficult to die in quicksand because humans can float in it.

How often do we allow things of no real danger to consume us and push aside God's life-giving power in our hearts and minds?

The late, great theologian, Charles Spurgeon, wrote, "The heart is as insatiable as the grave until Jesus enters it, and then it's a cup full to overflowing. There's such a fullness in Christ that He alone is the believer's all." As Christ-followers, there's nothing that can separate us from His love, His touch, and His saving mercy. He alone can fully satisfy.

When we allow the fears of this world to crowd out the praise of God, gratefulness for what He has done, and faith in His power, it's like we fear that we will fall into quicksand. Whatever the "quicksand" of our day might be, in the end, it doesn't have the power to overcome what we have in Christ. Stop right now, and once again (or for the first time!!) give everything over to God, and be filled to overflowing with Living Water — Jesus Christ.

Act

Think about John 4:14 when any "quicksand" thoughts of negativity and anxiety make it into your head. Over time, memorize it — let your heart and mind be quenched with the power of Christ.

Pray

Lord, I am ALL YOURS. You are my portion! Take all of me — my desires, burdens, gifts, and everything. I hold nothing back from Your touch. And, Lord, I ask You to FILL ME. I want to know You more. In Jesus' name, Amen.
