No Rain

Read:

Genesis 6:22 “Noah did everything just as God commanded him.”

2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we live by faith, not by sight.”

Think:

Imagine that you live in a world devoid of rain for an extended period, and yet, God instructs you to construct an enormous ark. He doesn't suggest hiding it behind a mountain; instead, he urges you to display it openly for all to see. Predictably, people ridicule you, and you find yourself in the position of explaining that God has not only promised rain, but a cataclysmic flood that will engulf the entire Earth.

This is the situation Noah found himself in. Yet in the face of skepticism, Noah did not falter or despair. He didn't bemoan his newfound career as a shipbuilder. Instead, he rallied his sons, rolled up his sleeves, and set to work. The Book of Genesis attests, "Noah did everything just as God commanded him" (Genesis 6:22).

Faith is trusting when your eyes don't see. It is the profound belief that transcends the limits of human senses. Noah's obedience to God stemmed not only from his intimate relationship with the divine but also from his unyielding faith that propelled him to act upon God's words, irrespective of how absurd they might have appeared to the world. This account exemplifies a vital aspect of the Christian journey—the ability to "walk by faith, not by sight," as we navigate through circumstances that have not yet materialized, but are nonetheless anchored in our conviction.

Apply:

What is God telling you to do today? To tell your neighbor or co-worker about him? To volunteer to serve? What is your step of faith?

Pray:

Lord, may we roll up our sleeves to act in faith on the plans you have shown us. And may we do so with a heart wholly devoted to you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
