Philippians 4:19, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
Psalm 84:11, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”
Every parent desires the best for his child. He wants to provide good things. Parents want to give them anything that will help them prosper and allow them to succeed in life. Likewise, good parents wouldn't give their kids something that would cause harm or allow them to be stunted in physical, emotional, or spiritual growth. If humans want wonderful things for their kids, how much more does our Heavenly Father, who is perfect, want to do the same for us?
The truth is humans desire many things that aren’t necessary, that aren’t needs. We want bigger and better – bigger homes and better cars, bigger toys and better vacations. Nothing is wrong with any of these things. But they become an issue when we stake our happiness on our wants, and then stress out if those wants are not met.
The way toward peace is to align our wants with His, to align our desires with His purpose. Not only will we discover joy and contentment, but then we will also see that He has met our every need. God is trustworthy. He will generously provide for us as we follow Him.
Make a mental checklist. Are your prayers more of a wish list or a thankful journal? Maybe today, you need to repent and refocus. Take an inventory of your needs and give thanks for what He has supplied.
Today, I repent. I have placed my wants above You. I refocus today and desire what You want for my life. You know best. Help me to follow Your will. Amen.
