Read:
1 Peter 5:2-3 “Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.”
Think:
Shepherds fulfill a dual role of guarding and guiding their flock, ensuring the protection and provision of their sheep. A skilled shepherd leads the way – scouting for lush pastures ahead – and also remains vigilant to shield the sheep from any lurking threats, such as prowling wolves.
In much the same way, God has entrusted you with a sacred responsibility—to be the shepherd of your "sheep," your children, within your household. As parents, we are tasked with emulating the example set by Jesus, who is referred to as the "Good Shepherd." Just as he cared for us, we are called to care for and nurture our children, guiding them along the path of righteousness and protecting them from the dangers and distractions of the world.
Apply:
Does the thought of being a shepherd excite you or petrify you? You have Jesus walking beside you. Emulate him, study him. Do what he did.
Pray:
Jesus, there are so many challenges today. Give me the peace and guidance that only you can offer. Help me to walk in your footsteps. Help me to see my children as who you designed them to be. In Jesus' name. Amen.
