Mind-Boggling

Read

Ecclesiastes 1:13, "I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens. What a heavy burden God has laid on mankind!" Job 36:22-26, "God is exalted in His power. Who is a teacher like Him? Who has prescribed his ways for Him, or said to Him, ‘You have done wrong?' ... How great is God - beyond our understanding! The number of His years is past finding out."

Think

As a new day dawns, do you find yourself thinking, "Here I go again!" Another deadline, another assignment, another problem, one more day to make sense of the world and my place in it. What a burden! But wait. This seeming futility of life actually comes from God. God has deliberately built a system where life seems meaningless and empty without Him. It may seem cruel of God to devise such a system, but it is actually evidence of His great love and mercy. He built within us the desire and need for that which brings meaning and fulfillment to life. The Creator made a God-shaped space in each of us, which can only be filled with Him. Solomon devoted himself to exploring everything being done under heaven by human wisdom. That wisdom has value, but it has no true answer to the meaninglessness of daily living. It only shows us how to live our meaningless lives better. What is needed is a heavenly wisdom, where God is our teacher. Only then can we find meaning as we see life as God sees it.

Act

Commit to memory Proverbs 1:7 - "Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline."

Pray

Dear God, You are great, exalted in power. Trying to understand Your greatness is truly mind-boggling. Yet I know You want me to know You and to walk in Your ways. There is no teacher like You. Today I submit myself under Your authority and choose to learn from You. Amen.
