Learning From the Best

Read

Proverbs 22:29, "Observe people who are good at their work - skilled workers are always in demand and admired..."

Think

To learn from the best, we must do our best to take their critiques and apply them! No one has ever said, "I want to learn from the worst." In anything we do, whether it's cooking, parenting, or learning to play basketball, we want to learn from experts in their field. In today's verse, we see that God wants us to observe those who are good at their work. What responsible tactics do they employ on a daily basis? How do they lead others? What do they do to keep bettering themselves? The answer is simple, the greatest teachers are teachable. And the best leaders are incurable learners. The Bible tells us that God has placed authorities over us to help us in our spiritual walk. Don't turn your back on a leader that critiques you. Instead, embrace the opportunity and incorporate what they've taught you in your own life. Being mentored by the best is a gift, an opportunity that only fools would pass up. And, remember, the best mentors recognize God as the  Ultimate Mentor!

Act

Pick someone who you feel is living their life on another level. What qualities do they possess that you find admirable? How do they do what they do? Write down the things they do that impresses you and start incorporating those qualities in your own life.

Pray

Dear God, I thank you for the opportunities you've given me to learn from the best. Help me to embrace critique and be teachable in the areas you want me to improve. Thank you for being my Ultimate Mentor. In Jesus' name, Amen.
