Read

Proverbs 4:23, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."

Think

Guard Your Heart A point guard in basketball is responsible for making assists in order to get his teammates involved. But his or her responsibility doesn't stop there. A point guard is also supposed to defend the opposition in order to keep them from passing and scoring. A point guard assists and defends. In the game of life, God wants us to assist others. And we assist others out of the overflow of our hearts. But the key to assisting is that we must also defend. Notice that today's scripture starts with three very important words: "above all else." In other words, the priority is to stand watch over your heart. Don't pass up this most important thing. The enemy is determined to take you out of the starting lineup. He wants you to ride the bench where you can't help anyone. Keep that from happening by defending against everything that God's Word tells you to stay away from. Keep your guard up and guard your heart!

Act

We are all tempted in different ways. Today, stop and think about the #1 temptation that keeps coming around in your life. Stop and creatively think of three things you can purposefully do to guard your heart against surrendering to that temptation.

Pray

God, help me to guard my heart against anything the Evil One wants to throw at me. Give me the strength and the discernment to never let my guard down. I know I can overcome with you on my team. In Jesus' name, Amen.
