Read:

Psalm 33:12 “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance.”

Think:

John Adams wrote, “July 4, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by following generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.”

While we enthusiastically partake in the festivities of this holiday, including the dazzling fireworks, spirited parties, and diverse celebrations, it is essential to reflect upon our commitment to the “solemn act of devotion to God Almighty.” Our nation's roots are deeply intertwined with godly principles, as evidenced by the unwavering faith of our founding fathers, whose remarkable vision still resonates more than two centuries later. Their resolute foundation stands as a testament to their beliefs, fortifying the enduring strength of the greatest country on earth, "one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” We need to stand up for these foundational doctrines that our country was built upon.

Apply:

How can you stand up for righteousness today? What decisions can you make to honor Jesus?

Pray:

God, use me and direct me as I live for you and honor you. We pray for our nation's leaders, that you would direct them and lead them. Give them wisdom and allow them to hear your voice. In Jesus' name, Amen.
