Judges 17:6,
"Every man did what was right in his own eyes."
Think
We've all heard the phrase "history repeats itself." Take fashion for instance, a trend comes in and goes viral, and when it seems like it's going to be a forever fashion trend, it disappears. Years later, that same trend comes back and the fashion industry falls for it again! Today's verse is a prime example of history repeating itself. The book of Judges describes a downward spiral for God's people. They were spinning out of control with disobedience, as all the people did as they pleased until they hit rock-bottom. What was right became wrong and what was wrong became right! Sound familiar? Look at our world. Many of our leaders, artists, and influencers call evil good and good evil. Driven by fear and insecurity, countless others follow their example. God loves you and wants to protect you. He is the author of right and wrong. Only God has a "forever" perspective. He knows what looks good today and for all of eternity. His fashion never goes out of style, so when we make difficult decisions in the moment to do what is right in the eyes of God, we can be confident that it will work out for our best today and in the days to come. God can be trusted; he is the only one who truly holds our future in his hands!
Act
Think of some of the controversial issues of our day. Make a list of what you believe is morally right and wrong. Look at each item on your list and ask yourself why you believe that item is right or wrong. Who determines your moral standards? Is it God or is it you? Are you more concerned with being politically correct or being aligned with God?
Pray
Dear God, I want my moral standard of right and wrong to be according to your Word. Show me where I have compromised my standards to be like the world around me and not according to your standard of righteousness. Amen
