Read

James 1:9-10, "Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. But the rich should take pride in their humiliation – since they will pass away like a wild flower."

Think

The ground is level at the foot of the cross! Whether you are the wealthiest person on earth or you are struggling to keep your head above water, every one of us has problems. What sets us apart as Christ-followers is what we do with our problems. Our reaction can either hinder our character or help us grow exponentially. The key is humility. Too often, we look to our own understanding to fix problems, because we don't want to ask questions or seek advice. But the truth is, the moment we think we have all the answers is the moment pride rears its ugly head. God is a helping God who wants to lead us to where we need to be. And though he already knows about our problems, he wants us to humble ourselves and ask for his help. When we realize that he's our greatest resource, it enables us to turn from our pride and take the first step toward humility. Our faith grows exponentially when we understand that God is always in control of every situation. Today, lay your problems at the foot of the cross; it's there that hope and inner freedom from all of life's troubles abound!

Act

Identify an area in your life where you are struggling or where you would like to grow. Reach out to someone whose opinion you trust and ask them for advice. This act of humility may open the door to the wealth of wisdom God wants to give to you!

Pray

God, thank you for loving me so much that you never leave me alone to handle everything on my own. In times of struggle, help me to humble myself and look to you for understanding and guidance. God, strengthen my love for you and others as I surrender my life to you. Amen.
