Romans 6:22-23 “But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Think:
When the 56 courageous men affixed their signatures to the Declaration of Independence, they did so with a profound understanding of the consequences they would face. They were acutely aware that by taking this bold step, they were committing treason against England, a crime punishable by death. Among the signers, there were 25 lawyers or jurists, 11 merchants, nine farmers or wealthy plantation owners, along with a teacher, a musician, and a printer. Despite their social standing and education, they willingly added their names to the Declaration, fully cognizant of the potential death sentence that awaited them if captured.
The act of signing the Declaration of Independence came at great personal cost. Five of these brave signers were indeed captured by the British and subjected to brutal torture as traitors. Nine of them took up arms in the Revolutionary War, sacrificing their lives to the wounds and hardships of battle. Two signers experienced the unbearable loss of their own sons in the war, while two others had their sons taken captive. The homes of at least a dozen of these valiant individuals were ransacked and reduced to ashes.
Jesus Christ was also willing to sacrifice for us. He paid the ultimate price for our sins, offering us liberation from the shackles of sin and guilt. Through his sacrificial death, we find freedom—a freedom that transcends worldly constraints. The price Jesus paid serves as a testament to the immeasurable love and mercy he extends to all who accept his gift of salvation.
