Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

Read

Psalm 139:13-16, “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.”

Think

When you stand in your kitchen, you’re surrounded by appliances: a refrigerator, a stove, a microwave, a dishwasher, an oven, and a coffee maker — all uniquely designed by humans to fulfill a designated purpose. Now, stop and think. If people like us invented these machines, how much more can the God of the universe, the Creator of life, do with His most prized possession — us?

God crafted you with your own emotional makeup, particular mental abilities, artistic talents, and athletic coordination. It is no accident when your eyes are green, your hair is straight, your legs are long, or your fingers are short and stubby. God formed you in your mother’s womb to be exactly who He meant for you to be. You are not average; you’re extraordinary! God created you with a very specific purpose in mind. So, as you look to God’s Word and gain confidence in your true identity, the more others will see Christ in you!

Whenever you feel overwhelmed by all that’s happening in the world today, pause and remember that you are not here by chance. You have been fearfully and wonderfully made for this moment in time, and you are one of a kind masterpiece created for a unique purpose. So, thank God for His love, power, and presence poured out on you every second of every day of your life. Ask Him to use you and your uniqueness today to point others to Him.

Act

The more we say what God says, the more we will begin to think what God thinks! Comprise a list of affirming labels such as “loved,” “child of God,” “created for a purpose,” “fearfully and wonderfully made,” etc. Post it near your bathroom mirror and, each morning, go through your list and declare aloud: “I am who God says I am!”

Pray

Heavenly Father, “How precious to me are Your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand — when I awake, I am still with You (Psalm 139:17-18).” Therefore, help me to see myself the way You see me, that I may encourage others to do the same. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
