Read

1 John 3:16,  "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters."

Think

"Family is all about being comforted and then getting out of your comfort zone to comfort them." In this day-and-age, "family" carries a variety of meanings. It's not limited to our biological family, but can include coworkers, friends, coaches, and neighbors. Think about some of the relationships in your life. Who would you consider your "family"? Who is your comfort and support system? The same, expanded definition of family was true for Jesus. At the foot of the cross, some of Jesus' closest family and friends watched helplessly as He suffered. But while dying on the cross, Jesus reached out to those He loved and comforted them in His time of need, recognizing that they had needs, too. Sometimes, we have to step out of our comfort zone to comfort the people we care about. We are called to be comfortably uncomfortable and show the world what family is all about!

Act

Call someone you know going through a tough time and check in on them. Send grocery gift cards to someone struggling to make ends meet or take a friend in need on a much-needed lunch date. Get out of your comfort zone to comfort someone you love, and show them the love God has to offer through you!

Pray

God, thank you for placing people in my life who I can call "family." Show me ways to get out of my comfort zone and get uncomfortable for those relationships I value in my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
