Read

Psalm 27:1, "The Lord is my light and my salvation-so why should I be afraid?"

Think

In the movie "Sandlot," the Beast chased Benny, leaving a path of destruction behind. The same happens to us when we run in fear, too. The Bible says that God never gave us a spirit of fear but of a sound, confident mind. F.E.A.R. stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. In this classic movie, the ferocious dog turned out to be not-so-ferocious in the end. All the wasted energy that these boys experienced worrying about the dog suddenly dissipated, once they realized they had overblown who he was. What are some things in your life that you have blown out of proportion that are causing you to be fearful? Remember that God wants you to live a life of joy and confidence, the antithesis of fear. When King David mentioned that he was walking through the shadow of death, he said that he feared no evil. Why? Because he knew God was with him. The Lord's light and salvation squelched his fear, and his light and salvation will do the same for you as well!

Act

What is the number one thing that you fear in your life? Have you perhaps blown it out of proportion? Memorize this passage and let it bring comfort to you, knowing that the Lord is with you. He is your light and salvation, so why should you be afraid? You shouldn't!

Pray

God, I admit there are times when I feel afraid. I know that's normal and that everyone else faces fear, too. When fear raises its ugly head in my life, remind me that you are right beside me, guiding and delivering me, just like you did King David. Thank you for helping me replace fear with joy and confidence. I pray all of this in Jesus' name, Amen.
