Romans 7:18-25, "For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do–this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God–through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

"Real recovery starts with Jesus" Jesus, the ultimate quarterback, throws perfect passes to us as players on God's team. We have every intention of performing well, but too often, we drop the ball. We're not paying attention, we get distracted, our heads aren't in the game and we fumble. We drop one ball after another due to sin. In today's reading, Paul describes how his goal was to do what was right, yet he often did exactly the opposite, constantly fumbling due to sin! But, he learned to trust in Jesus because he understood that he was powerless over certain struggles. When he relied on Jesus' unmatchable power and strength, he would succeed victoriously. Whatever you're struggling with today, rely on Jesus' power, wisdom and strength. Everyone fumbles, everyone makes mistakes. But when you are a player on God's Team, you can be confident that no matter how many turnovers you make, no matter how far behind you are, you will always win in the end!

Act

Admit to God an area of your life where you have "fumbled" the ball. Then, thank Him for the forgiveness he has already provided, and pray for the discipline to do what God has called you to do.

Dear Lord, thank you for sending the ultimate quarterback, Jesus Christ, to help me overcome my struggles and succeed. Help me to keep my eye on the ball as I trust in your strength and power to be who you want me to be and to do what you've called me to do as a player on your team. In Jesus' name, Amen.
