“For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
The end of the world is a fascinating topic. People predict it and try to prepare for it; they foretell it and try to figure it out. For many people, the idea of the end of the world is scary. They fear it, partly because the details are unknown. None of us really knows when it will happen. We don’t know the exact time or day. What we do know, however, is what the Bible teaches us about it. When the end comes, it will start as quick as the blink of an eye.
For those of us who are Christ-followers, the end is not something to fear. In fact, because we know how the story ends, we should have hope! We should also have a sense of urgency in telling those people in our lives who do not know Christ the reality of a relationship with Him. As you think about the end times, what emotion is first to enter your mind? If it is fear, remember who holds the future in His hands. If it is excitement, challenge yourself to tell as many people as you can about the hope they can have. The time may not be known, but what is known is that time will end. Are you ready for the ever after?
If you knew the world was going to end tomorrow, what would you do differently today? Make a list of things you would change if you knew the end was here. Then, make a point to begin changing those things now!
Thank you, God, for the peace I can have because You hold the future in Your hands. Give me a sense of hope and urgency as I think about the end times and watch for opportunities to share with others. Amen.
