Proverbs 6:6-8,
"Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest."
Think
"Are you working hard or hardly working?" At first glance, we may not seem to have much in common, but humans and ants share a very important quality. We are both wired for work! God gave us labor to enhance our lives. It's human nature to get a little lazy in certain areas of life. But if we aren't careful, we'll begin to slip and slide on the slime of a sluggish and lazy life, forgetting that work is a gift from God! It's time to enroll in the University of Ant where God teaches us through the example of the hard-working, self-starting ant. Here are two lessons we can learn from this inspiring insect:
Ants take initiative. They don't wait on others to motivate them. Are you waiting on a leader to push you? It's time to step up and take the initiative!
Ants are prepared. They work smarter, not harder. Do the most important things God has placed before you and do those first. Welcome to the University of Ant! You are well on your way to experiencing the satisfaction of working the way God has wired you.
Act
What does it mean to put the ball through the hoop for you as a parent, a student, a spouse, an employee? Identify what that looks like and write it down. Refer to it regularly and it will help you
prioritize and take initiative.
Pray
God, Thank you for your gift of work and for wiring me to work. Please continue to show me the lanes of life where I'm lazy and relying too heavily on others to get through. Help me today to re-prioritize and take initiative. In Jesus' name, Amen.
