Proverbs 77:7-9,
"Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?"
Think
It is easy to become focused on the "Why me, Lord?" questions during our struggles. As we ask those questions, we often feel isolated and even desperate. We can convince ourselves that we are the only ones suffering in anguish and confusion. In these moments, remember this:
- You are not alone. In the book of Job we read that he also asked "Why?" when he lost everything. As Jesus hung dying on a cross he cried out "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46)
- God can handle our questions. In our darkest moments, he will be our brightest light even when the answers aren't clear. Your questions will not push him away.
- Focus on God. Change you question from "Why?" to "What do you want to teach me?"
During our sleepless times of life, remember: "When we can't trace God's hand, we can trust his heart." It is imperative to remember that God is always faithful. He has always been there and he will continue to be your Savior and Comforter. You are not alone.
Act
Music is a great reminder of God's presence in our struggles. Create a playlist that reminds you of his faithfulness and goodness when you may not have the answers you need in the moment. (Examples: "So Good" by Fellowship Creative, "Look Up Child" by Lauren Daigle, "Do It Again" by Elevation Worship)
Pray
Heavenly Father, thank you for your faithfulness. During times when I feel alone in my struggles, please remind me that I am not. Even when I don't have the answers, help me to focus on you and not my circumstances. In Jesus' name, Amen!
