When Betrayal Comes Knocking

Read

Matthew 26:20-21, "When it was evening, Jesus sat down at the table with the Twelve. While they were eating, he said, ‘I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me.'"

Think

"Jesus knows." Have you ever experienced the sting of betrayal? Maybe it was a business partner, best friend, spouse or teammate. There's nothing like that feeling where you wonder if you will ever be able to trust anyone again. Jesus knows the pain of betrayal. During his ministry on earth, he spent about three years with a group of 12 followers. These were men that Jesus specifically invested into. They traveled together, ate countless meals together, laughed together and experienced the miracles of Jesus together. Despite all of Jesus' time spent with them, he was still betrayed by one of his inner circle, Judas. And the rest of his friends bailed on him when he was wrongly accused and arrested. When you face betrayal, know that you are not alone. Jesus will never abandon you and he wants to comfort you through the healing process so that you can become better, not bitter. Part of that healing is forgiving that person and walking in the freedom of knowing you are no longer chained to unforgiveness. While you cannot change the betrayal, you can control how you respond to it and grow from it.

Act

Are there people in your life that you need to forgive? While it most likely will not happen overnight, take the step towards forgiveness today by praying for the person that betrayed you. God will use that to help bring healing to your life.

Pray

Heavenly Father, thank you that I am not alone when I face times of betrayal. Please help me to forgive and give me the strength to stay open to the other relationships in my life that will help me heal.
