What's In Your Hand?

Read

Exodus 4:1-4, "Moses answered, ‘What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, the Lord did not appear to you?' Then the Lord said to him, ‘What is that in your hand?' ‘A staff,' he replied. The Lord said, ‘Throw it on the ground.' Moses threw it on the ground, and it became a snake, and he ran from it. Then the Lord said to him, ‘Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.' So, Moses reached out and took hold of the snake, and it turned back into a staff in his hand."

Think

Did you know that you have unlimited creative potential? You don't even need to ask God for MORE creativity, but simply need to RELEASE what He's already given you. God told Moses to return to Egypt to lead the children of Israel into the Promised Land. Moses immediately doubted himself, saying, "Please pick someone else!" thinking they'd never believe a stutterer like him! So God pointed his attention to the very thing in his own hands - his staff. In today's reading, we see God reassuring Moses that, yes, in fact, he does have the ability - with God's help. So Moses returned to Egypt and went through the labor of convincing Pharaoh. After God sent ten plagues, He delivered the Israelites from over 400 years of slavery. That same staff would later split the Red Sea! God did a miracle using what Moses already had within his grasp. Each of us has "a staff" - something we already possess that simply needs to be released. What God-given gifts and abilities lay dormant in your life? Ask God to unleash the untapped creative talent within you. If you can sing, sing! If you can teach, teach! If you can encourage, encourage! Whatever if it is, you've got it, now use it!

Act

Consider what comes naturally to you. What are you good at doing? If you aren't sure, ask someone close what they've observed. Listen carefully and reflect on how you can release your God-given gifts in a more intentional and powerful way.

Pray

Father, Thank You for giving me unlimited creative potential. Help me not ignore it, compare myself with others, and doubt myself. Unleash what you've placed within me so that I may bring You joy! In Jesus' name, Amen!
