Luke 5:16,
"But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed."
Think
"Your source determines your course." We've all experienced it. You're away from the house and you need to make a call or get directions, but your phone is dead. Sometimes we don't think about the battery life until it's too late! The same can be true of our faith. We get so busy in life - school, work, kids, sports - that we find ourselves running on empty. We are emotionally and physically exhausted, but we're also spiritually drained. Is it because God has left us? Is he no longer at work in our lives? No! God has promised to never leave us. But, we sometimes lose our focus. Jesus knew the importance of maintaining focus. In fact, he regularly took time away to pray. It was a chance to talk to God without distraction and to refocus on the fact that God is trustworthy. He is fully capable of meeting every need. He gives us wisdom as we make decisions and the strength to obey him. Jesus was aware of his need for prayer, are you? Why not take a moment right now to regain your focus? God is ready to give you what you need. When you remember your source, it will get you back on course!
Act
We often peruse social media when we have a moment of down time, thinking it will refuel us. Today, when you start to pull out your phone, let it be a reminder that God is the one who can best refill us. If you can, find a quiet place without distraction and pray – even if it's only for a few minutes. Thank God for meeting your needs and then talk to him about what's on your mind!
Pray
Jesus, thank you for the example you set for how to withdraw and pray. Please help give me the discipline to make time for prayer. Amen.
