Philippians 4:12-13, "I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through Him who gives me strength."
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
Think
If you've spent much time watching sports, chances are you've seen a pro or college athlete with a "Philippians 4:13" tattoo. It's almost comically common. In fact, there's even a few UFC fighters all pumped up and ready to fight who are known to enter the cage, pat their "tat" and point up towards God. No doubt, it's great anytime we bring attention to God – after all, everything is for Him, by Him, and through Him. However, those who sport this artful ink (and those of who don't) should understand the true meaning of this verse!
This verse is not about defeating other teams or breaking records. It's about finding peace in all circumstances. Paul was not about to run a marathon when he wrote to the Philippians - he was imprisoned in Rome. When we look to the broader context, we see that, in both our successes and failures, we have everything we need in Christ! Jesus is our victory!
If we know Him personally, we can't help but have immense, outrageous and contagious joy. So, in times of loss, sickness, or distress, we have hope of a greater tomorrow, both here and in heaven. We are content in Him through which all things are possible.
Contentment is more than a word or state of being - it's a person, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Act
Think back to a time when you had less than you do now. God provided. Challenge yourself to thank God for something specific at least five times throughout today! And, don't forget to smile!

Lord Jesus, You are my strength, my all. I praise You with a grateful heart. In You, I am complete. Thank You!
