The Spice of Life

Psalm 96:1-2, "Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise His name; proclaim His salvation day after day." Proverbs 8:17, "I love those who love Me, and those who seek Me find Me."

Think

Can you imagine reciting the same scripted conversation every time you hang out with your best friend? Meeting in the same place at the same time on the same day of the week? Yawn! How boring! Hence the commonly-referenced saying from 18th-century poet William Cowper, "Variety is the spice of life, that gives it all its flavor." Why, then, do we so often approach our personal prayer time with God with such repetition? Just as friendships stale without excitement, our prayer life can stagnate when we recite the same prayer at the same time in the same place. Without variety, our time with God becomes a duty, just another task on our daily to-do list. But God's not boring, so we shouldn't be either! Throughout the Bible, God teaches people, grabs their attention, and helps them defeat enemies in various and, at times, mind-blowing ways! So, why not add a touch of creativity to your prayer life? Even if you have a special place to spend quiet time with God in the morning, you can switch things up throughout the day. You can kneel in prayer, sing, sketch, listen for His voice as you exercise, do evening reflections, journal, and praise Him in nature. The sky's the limit when it comes to expressing your love to God! Today, try something new and feel the warmth of Christ's presence; His peace and love in the deepest depths of your soul!
