Matthew 4:18-20,
"As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. ‘Come, follow me,' Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.' At once they left their nets and followed him."
Think
From Fisherman to Fisher of Men In today's passage, the disciple Peter's roller coaster ride begins. Jesus asked Peter to retire from the only trade he knew, to follow him. Jesus, a master wordsmith, told Peter he was no longer a fisherman, but a fisher of men. In response, Peter IMMEDIATELY said goodbye to the familiar and anticipatingly stepped out on faith. Jesus extends that same challenge to all of us. He wants us to go fishing! He wants us to view life as a continual opportunity to fish for men and women with the intent of giving them the chance to become a committed follower of Jesus, too. This week, we will be looking at the highs and lows of Peter's roller coaster ride, because he is so much like all of us. Have you totally committed to following in Peter's footsteps? Because there's nothing greater, and it's the highest high you'll ever experience as you navigate the ups and downs of your own personal roller coaster ride called "life."
Act
Reread today's passage and ask yourself what you would have done if you had been in Peter's shoes? Peter's bold faith was the first step of the amazing life God had for him. What step of faith - no matter how small - do you need to take today?
Pray
Dear Heavenly Father, give me the faith to step where you want me to step each day. Use these steps of obedience to take me where you want me to go! In Jesus' name, Amen.
