Read

Matthew 28:18, "Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me."

Think

"Jesus is our ultimate authority." Imagine you were a lawyer who was about to try the biggest case of your career. To win the case, you would need some serious evidence on your side. But that's not all you would need. Just as important would be some strong witnesses. Because witnesses can often make or break a case. When it comes to the case of Jesus Christ, the four gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John – are essentially four eyewitness accounts of the man named Jesus. Written to four specific audiences from four unique authors, they give us a clear picture of who Jesus was and what Jesus did – they tell us of his words, his actions, and build the case for his divine nature. They are strategically placed at the beginning of the New Testament and they remind us of the primacy of Jesus in the overall story of Scripture. Remember, the Bible is all about Jesus. The gospels remind us of the powerful reality that he is the focal point and the foremost authority in life. As you continue to pursue a relationship with him, make sure you keep him at the forefront of your life as well!

Act

When you think about your life, who is your ultimate authority? When the chips are down, who do you look to for guidance and direction? Who are you trying to please? If you have placed anything in front of Jesus, what is it? Commit now to looking first and foremost to Jesus as the leader of your life.

Pray

Lord, I know that you are the ultimate authority and the focus of all creation. Help me to keep you at the center of my own existence and to remove anything that hinders my submission to you. Amen.
