Ecclesiastes 2:11,
"Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun."
Think
If you're one of the millions of people who have lived under the stay-at-home orders during the pandemic, your life has most likely changed drastically. For many, your daily routines have been altered, making you feel like you're living in a slow-motion world. The self-defining phrase, "I'm just so busy," is no longer the ready answer as to how you are doing. Now what? The quarantine will eventually go away, and your life will return, but to a new normal. For most, pre-quarantine life was about the daily on-the-go hustle – our busyness, a badge of honor we wore with pride. Far worse, we worshiped it. A busy, overworked lifestyle was the god of success, an aspirational status symbol, enabling us to feel good about ourselves. Now's the time to think about your life in a new way. What are your priorities? How do you define success? Where lies your true source of joy? In what, or more importantly, in whom, lies your security? Who do you worship? If busyness is your god, you're chasing after the wind, gaining nothing! Smash the idol of busyness and look to God as your all.
Act
The Bible makes clear that our priorities should be God, marriage, family, work, in that order. Ask yourself how "busyness" has affected these areas in a negative fashion. Determine what needs to change and take action!
Pray
Dear God, I repent of the worship of busyness. I smash that idol and acknowledge You as my true source for everything I need. I worship You! In Jesus' name, Amen.
