Matthew 20:28,
"For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many."
Think
"We are the most like Jesus when we serve someone." In our culture, a person is often considered important by how many people they have working for them. How many employees are in that CEO's organization? How many report to her on that committee? Isn't it interesting that the most powerful and influential person ever, did not measure success that way? Jesus was countercultural in that he didn't leverage his divine power to accumulate people to serve his needs, but he was motivated to serve others. Do you regularly find yourself aware of the needs of others and look for ways to help? What if you went in to work today focused on how you could make the company better instead of making yourself look better? Students, what if you looked for ways you could help around the house without asking for anything in return? Jesus lived his life on earth as a servant. His love for us was unquestionable. When we live our life to love and serve the needs of others, we are being the most like Jesus!
Act
Who are some people in your life that you can serve? Whether it is your spouse, your kids, your boss, or your teacher, look for ways today that you can serve them without expecting anything in return.
Pray
Dear Lord, I ask that you would point out the areas in my where I need to think more about the needs of others than my needs. As you show me ways, help me to be obedient and serve others just as Jesus did. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
