1 Corinthians 7:35,
"I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord."
Think
"Fan: a person who is enthusiastically devoted to someone or something." Every sports team has fans. They show up to every game, cheer every play, don the uniforms, and defend their teams with passion. The most avid fans spare no cost to show their support. Some even have season passes, willing to pay high prices to get as close as possible to the action. What if we treated our relationship with Jesus the way fans treat their favorite teams - with adoration and passion? True fans don't reserve their devotion for the times when the score is up, but then give up on the team when things aren't going well. True fans promote and defend their team, no matter what. This time of year, it's easy to focus on New Year's resolutions. But as we head into 2019, now is a great time to commit to doing what it takes to get as close as possible to the action. Whatever it is that you do, do it enthusiastically and get ready to cheer for all God is about to do in your life.
Act
What action steps can you take this year to get closer to Jesus? Write them down and share your list with a friend who will encourage you to stay committed.
(Examples: read your Bible daily, sign up to serve, join a serving group, commit to bringing the tithe, etc.)
Pray
Lord, you already know what the new year holds for me, and I am thankful for the ways you continue to provide for me and bless me. Help me to be passionate about my relationship with you as I commit to growing closer to you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
