James 1:25,
"But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it - not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it - they will be blessed in what they do."
Think
Benched or Blessed? No matter the sport, every team has a coach and every coach is responsible for teaching the players how to execute the plays in the playbook. Now, imagine asking your coach for help, spending day after day reviewing the plays and then, on game day, deciding to abandon all instruction and do your own thing. That would be insane, and you would find yourself back on the bench very quickly! In a relationship with God, he is the coach, we are the players, and the Bible is the playbook. If we are ever uncertain of what to do next, we need to ask the coach and refer to the playbook! Today's scripture is a reminder that when we choose to examine and look intently into God's playbook, not forgetting what we have learned, but applying it – we will be blessed! It's a choice to receive what God wants us to learn and implant it in our lives as we put it to work! But when we choose not to apply what we learn, we'll find ourselves and our blessings "benched."
Act
When God gave us his Word, his intent was for us to do something with it! Today, make every effort to improve on one thing that you know is not right in your life. Ask the coach and refer to the playbook. Ask God to reveal to you the main thing you need improvement on and try to next level it!
Pray
God, thank you for your Word and all the instruction and freedom that comes from reading and applying it! Help me to remember and put into action what I have learned from you today, and every day, as I seek you. In Jesus' name, Amen!
