Jeremiah 17:7-8, "But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit."
Have you ever moved into a new home or apartment and had to find the perfect place for everything you own? Sure does exercise our creative genius, doesn't it? Between all of the wall decor, finding the best flow for each room, and organizing the kitchen, it can become quite the task! And yet, once the last item is placed and there are no more boxes in sight, we enjoy a huge sense of accomplishment and peace.
The pleasure derived from having found perfect places for our things is awesome, but do you know what's even greater? Finding the ideal place for our trust! Consider this: trust must have an object. It's something that we can PLACE somewhere or in someone. Just like our sofas have a perfect spot within our living rooms, our trust does also - in God. As His children, He wants us to firmly establish our belief in Him, in His provision and strength above all else.
Trusting in anything or anyone more than God always leads to disappointment and dissatisfaction. Jobs come and go, relationship status' change and "normal" can quickly seem foreign - but God remains the same! Place your trust in Him, and you'll become like a well-watered tree that's safe from drought, like green leaves that NEVER stop producing fruit!
Rearrange something in your house, on your desk, or maybe the two most-used app icons in your smartphone for the day. Every time it draws your focus because it's out of order, let it be an important reminder of placing your trust where it rightfully belongs - in Jesus!
Father, Thank You for being trustworthy! Because You remain steadfastly faithful in an ever-changing world, I place my faith in You above all else. Help me identify any areas of my life that I'm misplacing my trust. In Jesus' name, Amen.
