Parenting Goals

Read

Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."

Think

Parents, is it our goal to raise the most intelligent, athletic, and outwardly beautiful children? No. Our goal is to mold and shape our children according to their unique talents and abilities for the glory of God. Most importantly, we strive to help our kids to mature and reflect the nature and character of our transcendent Lord. Obedience is listening and being attentive to correction. It's an inward appreciation displayed through outward diligence. Such values and virtues are more caught than taught, so honoring God must be seen and practiced within the home. Therefore, it's crucial to prioritize your children's spiritual development above all else. Bring them before God and an open Bible. Pray together and give thanks daily as a family. And partner with the local church to expand their knowledge and application of biblical principles. Kids who understand their need for a relationship with Jesus at an early age are on course to live within the sweet spot of God's blessing as adults.

Act

Plan a time this week to sit down with your spouse to prepare a family vision statement. And think of some practical applications and activities you can do as a family to help cultivate the vision.

Pray

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being the perfect parent. Help me to be the spiritual leader You have called me to be, so that I may reflect Your nature and character. As Your child, I seek to please You by listening for Your voice and being attentive to correction. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
