One of a Kind

Read

Psalms 139:13, "For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb."

Think

When you stand in your kitchen, you're surrounded by appliances: a refrigerator, a stove, a microwave, and a coffee maker. All of these appliances were uniquely designed by humans to fulfill a designated purpose. Now stop and think. If humans are the ones who designed these machines, how much more can the God, who created humans, do with you? God created YOU. He has crafted you with your own emotional makeup, your particular mental abilities, your artistic talents, and your athletic coordination. It is no accident when your eyes are blue, your hair is straight, your legs are long, or your fingers are short and stubby. God formed you in your mother's womb to be exactly who He meant for you to be. We all have tendencies to think, "Oh, I wish I looked this way. I wish I had this gift. I wish I had what that person has." Stop saying that to yourself. Take this moment to realize you have been fearfully and wonderfully made by God. You are one of a kind and created for a unique purpose.

Act

Take a piece of paper and make a list of everything you like about yourself. Underneath that list make another list of everything you don't like about yourself. Look carefully at your list of dislikes. For every dislike that you can change, draw a line through it. For every like as well as every dislike that you cannot change, pray the prayer below.

Pray

Heavenly Father, I thank You that You made me who I am. I thank You for (state your list of likes). I also thank You for the qualities that I do not like about myself (state your list of dislikes). I accept those qualities today because I know You created me, and You do not make mistakes. Thank You that I am one of a kind. In Jesus' name, Amen.
