Proverbs 4:23, "Guard your heart more than anything else, because the source of your life flows from it."

Think

When hearts are under attack, God's Word fights back! A bodyguard's main responsibility is to protect the person they're in charge of, at all costs. They follow certain procedures and limit access to ensure safety. The same is true when it comes to guarding our own hearts. Like bodyguards, we must approach heart safety with this same intensity and attention to detail. In Scripture, the heart represents far more than the organ beating inside your body. It symbolizes the seat of all human understanding, emotions, and desires. In other words, the heart is the motivating force behind our choices and actions. And left unguarded, it's open to attack. The evil one desperately wants to attack our hearts in any way he can. He wants to distract us from God's plan and purpose. Thankfully, we have a God who guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, at all costs. The best way to guard our hearts is to keep God's Word at the forefront of our minds. It gives us the wisdom to make good choices and the discernment to identify and resist the temptations and temporary fixes that threaten to derail us. And it helps us to live out God's best for our lives. So, guard your heart by spending time in God's Word every day. And, remember, the enemy may try to kill, steal and destroy, but Christ has already won the war. In him, we win!

Act

Reflect on some ways you're being tempted in your life. When you feel the tempted, remind yourself of Proverbs 4:23 and remember that your "No" is the protection your heart needs.

Pray

Dear God, I pray to have my heart in harmony with your Word. No matter the temptation, I pray for your protection and your strength to fight it. Thank you for protecting me at all costs. In Jesus' name, Amen.
