Psalm 139:1-14, "You have searched me, Lord, and You know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. ... You are familiar with all my ways. ... Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? ... If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me ... For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
Have you ever considered how much we desire to be noticed, to be seen? From a very early age, we crave attention, and that same need is one of the driving forces behind social media. Yet, no matter how much information we post about ourselves, no matter how many selfies we take or stories we post, we're only showing a glimpse of who we truly are. We don't usually post about the messiness in our lives, the fear that has us frozen, or that deep-seated issue we hope to keep hidden. But regardless of how much - or little - we reveal about ourselves, there is someone who's always watching and knows us better than we even know ourselves - Jesus! And His "like" is the only one that counts!
Take a moment to consider the confidence that comes from being truly known by God. How freeing it is to know that you don't have to pretend or photoshop to enhance your image! He created you with a specific purpose in mind, and He loves you, as-is. No filter needed!
Whenever you feel lonely or isolated and need to be seen, pause before you post. Look up and remember you may be the only person around, but you're not alone. So, give thanks to God for His presence and know He's giving you a thumbs up!
Use your social media platforms to encourage others. Share this devotional or today's verse. Remind your friends and followers just how much they are known - and loved - by the God of the universe!
"How precious to me are Your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand - when I awake, I am still with You (Psalm 139:17-18)." Therefore, help me to see myself the way You see me, that I may encourage others to do the same. In Jesus' name, Amen.
