More Than Information

Read

Proverbs 2:1-2, 5,  "My son, if you receive My words, and treasure My commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding... Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God."

Think

"The Bible is written for our transformation, not just information." God invites us to receive his words of wisdom. He encourages us to lean in to what he is teaching us. Once we hear God's wisdom, we must let it do more than just fill our heads. The goal of wisdom is application that works its way into our hearts. When you read the Bible, do you allow God to do more than just fill your mind with new information? The Bible is God's Word. And if you ask him, God can speak to your heart while you read. God has a way of causing a specific phrase or verse from the Bible to catch your attention at a certain time. When you have those moments where something from the Bible stands out to you... ...slow down. ...think about what you read. ...ask God to speak to you. God can speak to you by helping you see something in your life from a new perspective. God can speak to you by encouraging you. God can speak to you by helping you understand the answer to a decision you are facing. There are many ways God can speak to you if you are willing to move beyond just filling your head with interesting information and instead allowing God to fill your heart with his wisdom.

Act

As you read the Bible, ask some key questions: Is there an action step I need to take? Is there something within me that needs to change? Is there a sin I need to confess? Is there something I need to pray about?  If there is something that you are thinking is out of line with God's Word, ask God to help you start making a change in direction today!

Pray

My Father in Heaven, thank you for speaking to us through the Bible. Please help me recognize when you are speaking to me and help me to respond to what you show me. Amen.
