Isaiah 55:8-9,
"My thoughts," says the Lord, "are not like yours, and my ways are different from yours. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways and thoughts above yours."
Think
Yesterday, Pastor Ed walked out to deliver his sermon carrying an ordinary box. He said: "We put a lot of things in boxes, but there's one thing that should never go in a box...God!" We all at one time or another put God in a box. We bring God out of the box when we want him to get us through a tough situation, but then when blue skies replace grey clouds, we put him back in the box until our next challenge surfaces. This week, as we continue "Sam I Am," we are going to see how the Israelites, God's people, did the exact same thing. Today's verse challenges us to take notice that God thinks, acts, feels and operates on a "whole ‘nutha level." The quicker we can learn that he is God and we are not, the better off we will be. Don't put God in a box, because he won't stay there. He is far greater than we give him credit and he loves you far more than you could ever imagine!
Act
Reread today's verse and think back on the last time that you put God in a box; the last time you treated him like a cosmic waiter. Now, pray the prayer below asking God to forgive you.
Pray
God, you are a limitless God! Please forgive me when I try to put limits on you. Your ways are higher than mine and I respect you, but even more importantly, I trust you. I truly am sorry. Help me to see whenever I try to box you up and use you for my personal gain. Give me the discernment to be aware and to stop it. I pray this all in Jesus' name, Amen.
